New this year: In order to be considered for any role, you MUST submit qualifications when you submit your application. If you do not have qualifications, you must explain to us what steps you’re taking to achieve them. Candidates that do not submit proof of qualifications will not move ahead in the interview process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a timeline for applying?
We’ll continue to place successful applicants until all the roles are filled. We need applicants for Camp Directors to have their application in by Feb 1, 2010. The rest of the staff applications will be reviewed and scheduled for interviews after that time.

When can I expect an interview?
Most interviews will take place in the second half of February and the first half of March. We will prioritize our interviews by trying to place our “Director” teams first then we’ll get to the other roles after that. This is so we can have input from the people in the Director roles about their staff team.

There don’t seem to be as many volunteer positions as there have been in the past.
We have very specific roles for volunteers this year as most of our positions require an additional full week of on-site training. If you are qualified for a role designated as an "employee" position, can commit to the additional training time (usually in the week before camp starts) as well as commit to your volunteer period at camp, then consideration will be given on an individual basis to have this position filled by a volunteer. The roles we’ve identified for volunteers this year have lots of support built in so they’re more flexible to have people receive “on the job” training. We value our volunteers – WE NEED YOU! We have more volunteer opportunities this year.

How will volunteer placement occur?
Once we’ve received your volunteer application, your information will be reviewed for completeness then sent over to a volunteer placement person. She’ll give you a call and will discuss the details of the role with you. Expect to be contacted within 2 weeks of receiving your application if we receive it after February 1, 2010. Applications received prior to that time may take us until the beginning of February to process.

Do your camps reimburse for qualifications?
We don’t reimburse people for qualifications they are required to have (or obtain) for the positions they’re applying for. However, we do pay more to people who take positions that require more than basic qualifications. Through Girl Guides and other qualifying bodies, we offer many different opportunities for training. When we are running our own courses or trainings, we always offer these courses at cost to our Summer Camps employees and volunteers.

Volunteers for Summer Camps
You don’t have to be a Guiding Member to volunteer at Summer Camp (although we need some Guiders as well)! Please share the word with moms (or significant female adults) that there are volunteer opportunities at all of our camps. All volunteer and employee position descriptions, an organizational chart and applications are listed at http://www.guidesontario.org/camping/campemployment.htm.
