Where is the Camp located? The camp is easily accessible
from the 401 corridor at Trenton, Belleville and Marysville
exits. Follow directions to Picton, then travel on County
Road #8 and driving a few kms past the village of Waupoos,
you will arrive at Camp Waupoos, which is situated on Lake
Ontario and spans both sides of County Road #8.
When is facility available for weekend bookings? Brownie
House is available year round - week days and weekends.
Our sites are available from early spring until very late
fall.
Accommodations - Indoor/Outdoor: Brownie House is situated
on the north side of County Road #8 and easily identified.
The following three sites are in the pines along Lake Ontario.
Landy site has a kitchen hut and 6 tent platforms. Pinegrove
site has a kitchen hut with a large closed in area attached
for inclement weather and 6 tent platforms. Juniper site
has a building with bunks (no mattresses) available in
the main room that can sleep six and 6 tent platforms.
Juniper site can be used for winter camping but all supplies
need to be taken in and out on toboggans. Grantland site
is on the top of the hill and has a kitchen hut. There
are no tent platforms on Grantland site.
Minimum/Maximum allowed: Brownie House has two floors.
Upstairs have 7 rooms with 2 bunks and 1 room with 1 bunk
and a single bed - sleeps 31 maximum. Downstairs have 4
rooms with 2 bunks and 1 room with 1 bunk - sleeps 18 maximum.
Each of the campsites with platforms accommodates 24. Guiders
have pitched their own tents so all girls can have platforms.
Since there are no platforms here, Grantland is open for
up to 36 in total.
Accessibility: Downstairs at Brownie House is wheel chair
accessible. Presently none of the site Buildings are wheel
chair accessible but Pinegrove can be adapted.
Check in and Check out Procedures: check in and check out
times are at the discretion of the Contact Guider. An hour
before checking out of Brownie House a phone call is required
to the House superintendent so she has time to come to
inspect before you leave. All buildings and sites will
be open and operational upon your arrival.
Site Garbage and clean up required: If you brought it -
take it home. There is no garbage pick-up at Camp Waupoos.
Absolutely everything, including all garbage, needs to
be taken with you when you leave. If you post anything
on walls or on trees you are responsible for removing them
before you leave.
Equipment for Use: Free firewood is available on all sites.
Canoes are available through rental from Ontario Guide
House.
Both floors of Brownie House are fully equipped with cooking
and eating equipment and each has a small microwave, a
stove, a large food cooler (supplied by Pepsi), and a communal
freezer on the main floor entrance. Each of the Sites have
four-man nylon tents, patrol boxes, cooking equipment for
7 patrols (one for building), a large table for meal prep
or doing crafts, and grates for outdoor cooking.
