Introducing the Doe Lake 70th Anniversary Memories Book - 2nd Edition
to all parents
We would like to announce the publication of Doe Lake Memories Book, 2nd Edition, in celebration of 70 years of Doe Lake. While the original book, covering the first 50 years, is included in its entirety, some updates have been made to phrasing that is now out of date. As well, some additions have been made to the first 50 years and a new section covering the last two decades, 1999 - 2019, has been added. We hope you enjoy the stroll down Doe Lake memory lane! Paid orders for printed, bound copies will be accepted up to November 22nd and will be mailed before the end of November. The electronic copy will be available on an ongoing basis.

Nov 7th, Ottawa: Remembrance at the Canadian War Museum
to all parents in communities 27-29 and 40
Visit the Canadian War Museum and explore a range of Remembrance-themed activities. Individuals and units are welcome to arrive at any time throughout the evening. This event is open to other youth groups and members of the public. Members are encouraged to wear Guiding apparel.

Nov 10th and 16th, Mississauga: Glass Fusing Holiday Ornaments Drop-In Workshops
to all parents in communities 13-17
Drop-in with your friends and family of all ages for an amazing afternoon. Non-members are welcome to attend. Come and create beautiful, one-of-a-kind glass ornaments. Make one special ornament or stay for a while and make several pieces. All pieces will be fired and ready for pick-up approximately two weeks after each workshop.

Nov 15th, Mississauga: Girl Guide Program Day
to Spark, Brownie and Guide parents in communities 13-19, 22, 23, 37, 38 and 41
Register for some fun-filled, girl-focused program days. Participants will enjoy outdoor games, crafts, songs and more. Each day we will do activities and earn a special crest from different provincial and global Girl Guide challenges. Register for three or more program days by Thursday October 31, 2019 to receive a $5 discount per day.

Nov 15th, Mississauga: Plastic Free Challenge Day
to Spark, Brownie and Guide parents in communities 13-19, 22, 23, 37, 38 and 41
Attend this fun-filled, girl-focused event. Girls will complete the Plastic Free Challenge from Nova Scotia. The activities will include crafts, songs and outdoor games.

Nov 16th, Mississauga: Make Your Own PJ Pants
to Guide parents in communities 13-19, 22, 23, 37, 38 and 41
Guide units and individual girls are invited to come and develop their skills using a sewing machine. Equipment and fabric will be provided.

Nov 16th, Belleville: Girl Guides at Belleville Senators Hockey
to all adult members and Rangers in community 24
Join your sisters in Guiding from community 24 to cheer on the Belleville Senators at the CAA Arena. Units are responsible for their own supervision and ratio. Families are welcome too.

Nov 23rd, Mississauga: Breaking Career Barriers
to Link members and Pathfinder, Ranger and Trex/Extra Ops Unit Guiders and Community Guiders in communities 13-19, 22, 23, 37, 38 and 41
Girls will hear firsthand from women who have found success in non-traditional careers. This is the first of our biannual series focusing on underrepresented career paths for women. All girls are welcome so please consider bringing a friend.

Nov 24th, Ottawa: GGs Meet Gee-Gees: Girl Guides Game
to all parents in communities 27-29 and 40
The uOttawa women’s volleyball team invites all Guiding members to watch the Gee-Gees face off against the Montreal Carabins. There will be fun activities for all branches before and during the game. Girls will have the chance to meet empowered women from various careers and learn skills that count towards the Guiding program. This event is for members of Guiding and their friends and families.

Nov 30th, Mississauga: Teen First Responder Course
to Pathfinder and Trex/Extra Ops parents in communities 13-19, 22, 23, 37, 38 and 41
Join us for an Emergency First Aid Certificate course with CPR and AED. Taking this course will help you work towards completing the Pathfinder program and the Canada Cord.

to Guide parents in communities 13-19, 22, 23, 37, 38 and 41
Guide units and individual girls are invited to come and develop their skills using a sewing machine. If registering as a unit, one adult supervisor is required for every two girls. The equipment and fabric will be provided.

March 1st, St. Catharines: Girl Guide Day with Niagara Ice Dogs 2020
to all parents in communities 9, 10, 14, 21 and 41
Come and watch the hockey game and cheer on the Niagara Ice Dogs with all your Guiding friends. Ticket holders may skate on the ice before the game from noon to 1 p.m.

November's Guider of the Month theme is Be Well. Nominate a Guider today!

The Guider of the Month award is a way for girls and youth members to nominate any adult Guiding member who has had a positive impact on their Guiding experience. It is an award that celebrates the contribution that they make to Girl Guides of Canada and specifically your daughter and her unit. Only nominations written by girl/youth members will be considered, but parents may help younger members complete the application if needed.

Announcing an exciting Independent International Trip to Our Cabana
to Pathfinder, Ranger and Trex/Extra Ops Parents in communities 13-19, 22, 23, 37, 38 and 41
Plans are underway to take a group of Pathfinders and Rangers to Our Cabana in 2020. This will be a multipurpose trip allowing the participants to experience International travel, Mexican culture, a community action activity, an aquatic park and a program session at Our Cabana (one of our Guiding World Centres).

Oct 20th, Burlington, Toronto and North York: MEC Girl Guide Club Event
to all parents in communities 13-19, 22, 23, 37, 38 and 41
MEC Toronto, MEC North York and MEC Burlington stores invite the Girl Guides of Canada to enjoy Club Day. At the Toronto store there will be demonstrations such as learning about packs and how they should fit, sleeping bag sizing and comfort and safety in the backcountry. Enjoy a talk given by MEC staffer, former Girl Guide and Canada Cord Award recipient, Elizabeth. Discounts and workshops will vary at each location.

Are you due for dinner and a movie or a quiet evening home alone? Consider bringing your children to a supervised program at the Mississauga Girl Guide Centre. This event is open to all children regardless of GGC membership status between 5 and 12 years old.

Complete the Be Prepared, Be Safe Instant Meeting for Guides and learn how to recognize and deal with emergencies. What goes in a Be Prepared kit? Who should you call for help? The sessions will cover these questions and more through games, crafts and activities focused on natural and community emergencies. This event is open to units and individual girls.
